Casually Casual

An exercise in fashion and self love

I generally start off most photo sessions with new people with something to the effect of “You’re beautiful and I don’t really care… I’m more interested in WHO you are than what you look like”. This mindset comes from the idea that a good photograph is about what it feels like and less what it looks like.

From 2012-2022, I’ve had the opportunity to work with and befriend some of the most remarkable people I could have ever hoped to meet. Throughout this journey I’ve also learned that, especially with the advent of social media, we spend a lot of time concerned with how we look. While I enjoy the idea of fashion, to me, the industry has placed an unreasonable burden on young women who teeter between wanting to stand out and fit in. This became especially apparent to me as my daughter started to get older and explore her own style and identity. Creating a safe space for the people around me to feel sexy, be silly, explore their “alter egos”, and play whatever characters society tells them they should suppress is something I consider myself blessed to be able to provide. The photographs in this series, then, are not so much “photo shoots” as they are the byprodcuts and memories of a time when we were able to just be ourselves.
